Elevate: WOC in Saxophone

Belonging and visibility are essential to increasing representation of all identities and experiences within what is considered the “classical” saxophone field. The Women of Color in Classical Saxophone Group was created to offer affirmation, visibility, and mentorship to women of color in the field. Because their presence has often been limited, this initiative marks an important step toward greater support and acknowledgment. As Audre Lorde reminded us, “There is no hierarchy of oppression,” highlighting the importance of honoring all voices and contributions in the pursuit of equity.
